Joe Urbano | Winner of Two MTV Awards

Columbus College of Art & Design alumnus John Urbano’s directorial work for British pop band, One Direction, has paid off with two 2012 MTV Video Music Awards. Urbano directed the video for One Direction’s hit, “What Makes You Beautiful,” which won VMAs for Best Pop Video and Most Share-Worthy Video. The band also took home Best New Artist. The video features the five-member boy band gathering with friends on a beautiful California beach.

Urbano graduated from CCAD in 1996 with a BFA in Advertising & Graphic Design and worked at Abercrombie & Fitch for 12 years as senior art director. Since establishing himself as a freelance photographer, cinematographer and director, he has published several books and directed an award-winning documentary film, Beauty of the Fight.
