AICAD Welcomes Yale School of Art as a New Member
The Association of Independent Colleges of Art and Design is pleased to announce that Yale School of Art was approved for membership by the Board of Trustees.
Founded in 1869 as the first professional fine arts school in the United States, Yale School of Art at Yale University grants Masters of Fine Arts degrees to students in graphic design, painting/printmaking, photography, or sculpture.
Yale School of Art is the first new member to join under our updated bylaws that embrace membership from independent institutions and independent units within larger, private, non-profit comprehensive higher education institutions that are dedicated to the advancement of the creative fields – visual art and design (including architecture) as well as the performing arts. Our broader membership umbrella recognizes the interplay between all the creative fields, as well as the reality that units within larger institutions often have more in common with independent specialized institutions than not. All members of AICAD must attest to our Values Statement and DEI Statement of Principles, and those units within larger institutions must meet our Definition of Independence.
We look forward to welcoming the Yale School of Art into the AICAD community!
The Association of Independent Colleges of Art and Design – is a non-profit consortium of the leading art schools in the US and Canada. It was founded in 1991 by a group of 25 presidents who felt a need for the similarly structured art schools to come together so as to mutually develop their schools and programs. Our mission is to help strengthen the member colleges individually and collectively, and to inform the public about these colleges and the value of studying art and design.
