AICAD Alumni Win Prestigious ADC Young Guns 13 Competition
Diverse jury selects smallest YG class in history
The ADC Young Guns 13 winners were announced on September 8th, and four of them are AICAD school alumni! The diverse panel of jurors agree that this was the most competitive year for this prestigious award, which welcomes winners into an exclusive and special community of creative professionals age 30 and under. Young Guns have identified themselves as “animators, illustrators, self-filtering pool inventors, scar-typographers, sound architects, avant-garde programmers and everything-elsers”!
Christopher Brand (BFA, Graphic Design) attended the School of Visual Arts, and currently is Vice President and Creative Director at the Crown Publishing Group at Penguin Random House. His work includes book cover designs for authors including Herman Koch, Anthony Marra, and Gillian Flynn. Selected covers can be seen here.
Daniel Zender (MFA, Illustration) also graduated from the School of Visual Arts, and works as an illustrator, fine artist, and designer, while also teaching at Queens College as an adjunct faculty of art / design. He publishes his own comics, and founded the zine, Hydrochloric, which features his own work as well as that of other artists. His wide range of work can be seen here.
Joohee Yoon (BFA, Illustration) graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design, and currently works as an illustrator and printmaker with clients including the New York Times, Washington Post, and Boston Globe. She travels giving talks and lectures, and has recently taught a workshop in Moscow! See more of her work here.
Zipeng Zhu (BFA, Graphic Design) is the third winner that attended the School of Visual Arts. He currently works as a designer for Sagmeister & Walsh, and describes himself as a “designer in New York City who wants to make everyday a razzle-dazzle musical.” Examples of his design work can be seen here.
